HOCA Events

The HOCA Practice-designed enhanced library facility at Merton’s Pollards Hill Library was opened by London Mayor, Boris Johnson. Our design solution was commended for the manner in which the new-build element fits in with the original 1970’s library. The Local Authority's Brief focussed on bringing the Library closer to the local people and community.

The HOCA Team & Merton Libraries consulted with the Local Community on a number of occasions by making presentations and answering particular questions raised by the design proposals and their specific requirements

From the beginning, HOCA were mindful to avoid the “new Build Addition” solution and set about producing a design solution for the library where a more holistic approach was employed.

HOCA achieved this by locating a new Main Entrance to the front on South Lodge Avenue, reorganising the existing open plan space and providing a completely new external envelope to the entire building. The design solution also ensured maximum use of Sun Tubes - a new, efficient lighting and heating system with the purpose of reducing energy bills.

Architects & Lead Consultants, HOCA, made particular use of the different levels to enhance the functionality of the various library activities and spaces which include the following features: 

• Provision of books for all sections of the community, with no hidden corners;
• Clear visibility to all sections of the library;
• Learning Rooms;
• Adult Reading Areas;
• Junior Section;
• Youth Section;
• Café Area & Rest Area;
• Disabled and Baby Change Facilities;
• Computer Training Room;
• New entrance & Information Centre.

Chris joined HOCA earlier this year and is currently Senior Project Architect for a major primary school project for the London Borough of Merton.

Chris is an experienced and well rounded architect with many years experience in professional practice. His expertise and knowledge embraces a wide range of projects experiences which include social housing, commercial developments, education projects, office developments, Fire Stations, Health Care projects and hotels both in the UK and abroad.

Chris brings further strength to HOCA at senior level and reflects the character and personality of the practice with his own unique style. We are very pleased to welcome Chris as part of the HOCA Team.

The HOCA Practice has been selected as Architects and Lead Consultants to the newly formed North Wales Procurement Partnership.

HOCA are proud to have the opportunity of working with the six North Wales Councils forming this new Partnering Framework Agreement. We look forward to contributing our Partnering Framework experience to North Wales.
