Anton Resource Centre
|
| |
The Anton Resource Centre - a new model in social care - is a specialist resource for people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities in the London Borough of Sutton. Whilst primarily for people with specific needs, the resource centre was always designed to be adaptable in offering services, support and facilities to a wide range of people from the Sutton Community.
During the design process the Client User held a number of forums for key stakeholders, including carers and neighbours to the proposed building, all of which HOCA were pleased to attend. Specific additional forums were held for people with learning disabilities and HOCA design architects were keen to attend and communicate with people, whilst actively working with the Client User to make the necessary information accessible and understandable to the everyone. |

Benedict Primary School
|
| |
A total new build Key Stage One and major design refurbishment forming the overall Design Solution for Benedict Primary School bringing the existing school up to current BB99 standards.
The Design Solution creates a new identity for the school by designing a new main entrance fronting Benedict Road.
Functionality Spatial Arrangement and Provision A significant features attached to the existing school is the manner in which the arrangement of spaces prevents the school to function effectives. This is evident by the disorganised manner in which the classroom spaces are laid out. Equally, the size of the existing main hall located within the existing Key Stage Two building is not adequate in size to fulfil the school curriculum.
The essence of the Design Solution then reflects the requirements as defined within Building Bulletins together with incorporating the principal features identified within the Design Quality Indicator Briefing Document. The thrust that lies behind the Design Solution also makes provision for a total new re-build of Key Stage One, a new build Main Hall, a new build Kitchen and associated stores and catering facilities, a new build Small Hall, new build Family Room and Groups Rooms, Toilets and further storage or, changing facilities, depending upon how best the school chooses to use the school amenities for additional revenue purposes.
In addition to this, a total Refurbishment of Key Stage Two which includes a new Main Entrance and major alteration works to the ground floor level to accommodate new Offices, Lobby, Lift and ancillary spaces and increased size classrooms so as to comply with current BB99 space standards.
Fundamental to the Design Solution for Benedict Primary School is the provision of fourteen classroom spaces, some which are new build and others consist of two storey new build extensions to existing classrooms. This, together with the new build requirement highlighted above, allows Benedict School to function as a Two Form Entry School, a main Brief requirement.
School Personality Image and how the place Works Relocating the School’s Main Entrance from the rear of the site to the front on Benedict Road is considered to be a vital element for the future success of the school. The new main front entrance is now accessed directly from Benedict Road itself from which the school gets it’s name, and provide immediate access to the School’s Lobby, Office and Reception activities in a more obvious manner. Benedict Primary School once again established its rightful place on Benedict Road with direct access into the main Entrance areas. |
