Anton Crescent Resource Centre
Location: London Borough of Sutton
Project Value: GBP £5,000,000
Site Area: 1,500M2
Sector: Health - Complex Disability Needs
This is a purpose designed new building for adults with severe learning disabilities. Whilst this new Inclusion Centre is primarily for people with Profound and Multiple Learning and Complex Disabilities with very specific needs, the Centre is required to be adaptable in offering services, support and facilities to a wide range of people within the Sutton Community.
The Brief for this project was to design, within the given budget, a state of the art modern centre that would be suitable for services to be provided for this specific client group throughout their life. This meant that the building had to be of a design that would be suitable and flexible enough for wheelchair use and for people to develop further sensory, physical and mental health difficulties, for example dementia.
The building was designed as a tetradecagon, sometimes referred to as a tetrakaidecagon, which is a fourteen-sided building. As a result of the design options that were investigated within the Feasibility Study this geometry formed the best fit for both the context of the site and the intended functionality of the building. The building has a complete ramp providing constant pedestrian access from the ground floor to the first floor level. This allows client users who are able, total free access to each level but within a secure and controlled environment.
A hydrotherapy pool is also included in this facility together with spaces providing exceptional sensory experiences. Anton Inclusion Centre offers practical activities in conjunction with the provision of a Physiotherapy Service including specialist physiotherapy assessments and treatment.
